Over 1.5 prediction: matches the model expects to produce two goals or more
TipsQuant editorial team · Updated
Over 1.5 goals is the market readers use when they want something that lands most of the time and are prepared to accept short odds in return. The model treats it with respect: a match appears on this page only when the probability of at least two goals reaches 78%, which is the highest bar on the site after double chance. What you get in return is a short list that should hit very often, with fair odds printed so you can see at once whether the bookmaker's price is worth taking.

The arithmetic of a short price
A tip at 80% has fair odds of 1.25. If the bookmaker offers 1.20, you are being paid less than the risk you are taking, and over a long series of such bets you will lose money even while winning four times in five. If the bookmaker offers 1.30, the price is on your side. With a market this short, that gap of a few cents is the whole game, which is why the fair odds column matters more here than on any other page.
This is also why over 1.5 is popular as an accumulator leg. Four legs at 1.25 give total odds of about 2.4, and if each really is an 80% chance the slip lands about 41% of the time.

What pushes a match over the line
The probability of at least two goals comes from the full spread of scorelines the model produces for the match. It rises when either side has a strong attack, when the competition's scoring level is high, and when the two teams are mismatched, because a heavy favourite tends to score more than once on its own. It falls in derbies, in matches between two defensively organised sides, and in competitions where goals are scarce.
Goals markets on this site are calibrated, because an unadjusted Poisson model overrates both the very high and the very low goal counts. The published probability has been corrected using a past season and tested on the following one, so the 78% bar means what it says.

The under side, briefly
Under 1.5 is the same line seen from the other end: the match finishes 0-0, 1-0 or 0-1. The model prints it only when it is confident, and that happens rarely, because even two blunt attacks produce two goals more often than people expect.
Things the numbers cannot know
A tip for two goals or more is vulnerable to the same surprises as any goals bet. A rotated front line, a red card inside the first quarter of an hour, a goalkeeper having the night of his life, or a pitch turned to mud by rain in Kampala or Kumasi can all turn a comfortable over into a 1-0 grind. The model sees finished results and, where available, the odds. It does not see the weather or the team sheet.
How we pick these tips
Every over and under 1.5 tip comes from the Dixon–Coles adjusted Poisson model described on the methodology page, with the goals calibration applied before the threshold is checked. Where bookmaker odds are available, the probability is a 50/50 blend of the model and the odds with the margin removed. Each printed tip is logged before kick-off and settled from the 90-minute score on the track record page.
One more thing before you bet
Short odds feel safe and are not. Any bet can lose, and an over 1.5 at 80% will lose one match in five over time, sometimes several in a row. For a wider view of goals, the over 2.5 predictions and both teams to score pages show the same matches through a different line. Frequently asked questions
What does over 1.5 goals mean?
The bet wins if the match has at least two goals in 90 minutes, in any combination, so 2-0, 1-1 and 4-3 all win and 1-0 and 0-0 lose. It is the lowest goal line most bookmakers offer apart from over 0.5.
Why is the threshold for over 1.5 so high?
Because the odds are short. Over 1.5 often pays between 1.15 and 1.35, so the tip has to land very often just to break even. We print it only from 78% probability upward, which is roughly where the fair odds drop to 1.28.
Do you predict over 0.5 goals?
Not as a separate market. Almost every match clears over 0.5, the odds are too short to be useful and the few 0-0 draws that beat it are the hardest results of all to foresee. The correct score table shows how likely 0-0 is in each match if you want that view.
Where are the under 1.5 tips?
In the same table, when they exist. Under 1.5 needs two sides that rarely score and a competition with a low scoring level, and the probability seldom climbs high enough to print. A quiet table on the under side is normal, not a fault.
Is there a best over 1.5 prediction site?
Judge any site by a record it cannot edit. Ours is settled by script after each match and shown on this page. A site that posts over 1.5 tips with no visible misses is hiding them.
Can over 1.5 be predicted both halves?
Our model works on the 90-minute score only and does not produce half-time or second-half probabilities, so there are no tips for over 1.5 in each half here.
