Weekend prediction: the Saturday and Sunday slate in one list

TipsQuant editorial team · Updated

The weekend is when most of the football is played and most of the betting is done, so this page gathers Saturday and Sunday into one slate. It is also when the pressure to find a big slip is strongest, which is exactly when a fixed, public threshold helps: the model prints what clears the bar and nothing more. Below you will find the match winner tips for the two days, a 5 odds accumulator built from the most probable legs, and the correct scores the model thinks most likely.

Saturday 3 October – Sunday 4 October: our model analysed 1 matches across 1 competitions and 0 meet the threshold for this market.

Reading a weekend slate

A weekend list is longer than a weekday one, and that changes how you should use it. On a Saturday with the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, the Bundesliga, Ligue 1 and the local leagues all in action, there can be dozens of tips above threshold. The temptation is to take all of them. The arithmetic says otherwise: ten tips at 70% each, combined into one slip, have a roughly 3% chance of all landing, however good each one looks on its own.

The better approach is to use the long list as a menu. Pick the few matches you understand, check the probability against the price, and let the rest go. The table is sorted by probability, so the safest-looking tips are at the top, but the most interesting price is often further down where the model and the bookmaker disagree.

The weekend 5 odds accumulator

The accumulator block below is built mechanically. Each day the model looks for the most probable combination of legs, each with at least 70% probability, that reaches total odds of 5 with the fewest legs. Fewer legs is the point: a three-leg slip at around 1.7 each has a far better chance than a seven-leg slip at 1.25 each, even though both pay roughly the same.

Readers often call this kind of slip "sure odds". It is not. Three legs at 70% each land together about one time in three, and that is on a good day for the model. The accumulator is the most defensible slip the numbers can build, not a certain one, and any bet can lose.

Correct scores for the weekend

The correct score table is the model's raw output: the probability of each scoreline before the markets are derived from it. It is a useful way to see how open or tight the model expects a match to be. Correct score bets themselves lose far more often than they win, which the long odds reflect.

Things the model cannot see at the weekend

Teams that played in Europe or in the CAF competitions on Wednesday or Thursday arrive with heavy legs, and the model only sees the result of that midweek match, not the fatigue. Managers rotate for cup ties. Late-season fixtures can be dead rubbers for one side and finals for the other. Rain in the local leagues can turn a goals pick into a mudbath. When you know these things, they are worth more than a few percentage points in a table.

How we pick

The weekend tips come from the same Dixon–Coles adjusted Poisson model as every other page: attack and defence ratings for each team, a scoring level and home advantage for each competition, and, where bookmaker odds are available, a 50/50 blend with them once the margin is removed. The methodology page explains every step and every threshold, and the track record page settles each tip automatically from the final score, weekends included.

Before the weekend starts

Decide what you are prepared to lose across both days before Saturday's first kick-off, and do not top it up on Sunday to chase Saturday. Kick-off times are in East Africa Time; the site converts them for you, and West African readers are two or three hours behind. For the matches right in front of you, the prediction for today page is fresher, and for the day after, the tomorrow prediction page. This site is for adults aged 18+ only, and our responsible gambling page lists the limits you can set at the bookmaker.

Frequently asked questions

Which days count as the weekend on this page?

Saturday and Sunday. From Monday to Friday the page shows the coming weekend. On Saturday and Sunday it shows the current one, so Saturday's finished matches drop off and Sunday's remain.

Is there a list of the best 15 teams to bet on this weekend?

There is no fixed number. The table prints every tip that clears the threshold for its market, which can be five on a quiet weekend and forty when the big European leagues and the CAF competitions all play. Cutting the list to a round number would mean adding weak tips or hiding strong ones.

Are weekend predictions more reliable than midweek ones?

No. There are more fixtures, so the list is longer and the strongest tip is usually stronger, but each individual probability means the same thing it does on a Tuesday. More choice is not more certainty.

Why is the 5 odds accumulator sometimes missing?

The accumulator is built only from legs with at least 70% probability. When there are not enough of those to reach total odds of 5, the model does not pad the slip with weaker legs, and the block stays empty rather than showing something it would not stand behind.

Do the Saturday tips update on Sunday morning?

Yes. Saturday's results are added to the ratings overnight and Sunday's fixtures are repriced in the morning run, so the Sunday tips you see on Sunday are fresher than the ones you saw on Friday.
